CENTRAL PLANNING, COMPUTING TECHNOLOGY, AND ECONOMIC PROBLEMS

The contemporary development of computational technologies has led to a growing interest in the ideas of collective economic planning. Their modern proponents argue that the past failures of socialist systems were largely due to the lack of computational power available several decades ago. However, recent advance- ments in information and computational technology are expected to change this. Tools such as artificial intelligence, big data analyt- ics, and machine learning are claimed to enable socialist econo- mies to achieve a higher level of economic efficiency than market economies.
